Research Abstract |
180 type 1 diabetic patients and 380 type 2 diabetic patients completed a questionnaire containing many items related to "negative cognition concerning diabetes". Factor analysis was done and useful factors were extracted for each type of diabetes. Subjects also completed established psychological inventories: Problem Areas in Diabetes Survey (PAID), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), Automatic Thoughts Questionnaire (ATQ), Expanded Hopelessness Scale (EHS), and Self-esteem Test (SES). The questionnaire and factors correlated well with the corresponding factors on the other inventories. Medical and demographic data were checked on medical records. Some of the factors correlated with HbA1c.
