Research Abstract |
The purpose of this study was to inquire the basic ways of thinking for education related to nursing ethics, to identify the core contents of the education, and to develop exemplar including the core contents for ethical education. We examined the various condition for nursing ethics and defined the original'nursing ethics'. In particular, meaningful outcome of this study that we could reach following conclusions ; 1. Nursing ethics changes to be affected by culture and the times, and are open to change. 2. Nursing ethics deals with'continuing'issues, not'dramatic'issues. 3. No'right'answers exist to nursing ethics, but'way of thinking for dealing with'continuing'issues in clinical settings within basic nursing education. Based on analysis of the characteristic on existing approaches to dealing with ethical issues, we documented the importance of analyzing from multiple perspectives using various ethical theories and approaches, instead of one theory and approach. Furthermore, the case prepared from interview were examined from the four theories and approaches ; 1. Four principles of life ethics: Jonsen's approach 2. Ethics of caring 3. Thompson's 10-step model for decision making 4. Narrative approach. We attempted to clarify the characteristics of each approach and the differences between approaches. We clarified that to deal with ethical issues, it is important for nurses to construct the cases by analyzing surrounding situations with the individuals own sensitivities as the starting point so that they can notice, verbalize, and the impact ethical issues that may not be apparent in clinical settings.
