Research Abstract

2007 Research Result Report
1. Process of the research: Cognitive nursing intervention for chronic pain experienced children through "Story" (which is received the consultation of Sharon Morgillo Freeman, a specialist for nursing cognitive therapy) was developed. Through reflection of characters of the story, five feeling expressions (unstability, discouragement, asateivu・self centralization, anger) were screened. The research was focused on the elementary school children with Juvenile Rheumatoid with cooperation of Ryuumachi (Rheumatoid) friends Cooperation.
2. Research results: 1)self concept: The analysis result of selection of adjective of 15 where oneself is displayed; (1) Before the intervening which passes "the story", 86% of children identified themselves as "kind hearted. In addition", 57〜71% expressed positive self. Negative self expression was 50%. In expression of self, change after the intervening resulted within personal differences, but effectiveness was suggested. 2)Coping behavior in pain: Like [ignoring][Watching TV], research suggested that children are enduring with chronic pain in general.
3. Summary : Cognitive Nursing Intervention, personal interviewing, advising regarding life events and development is effective way of support for children and family with chronic pain.
The research focused on the child of Juvenile Rheumatoid, but there is a limit in the number of subjects. So, the research needs to include the children with cancer who also experience pain. Effectiveness of positive change after "the story" intervening furthermore appraisal is necessary with the follow-up.
