Research Abstract

種々の機能物質では,多元素化合物や同一元素でも電子状態の異なる複数のサイト(マルチサイト)から成ることが多く,多種多彩な機能・物性の出現の源となっている.本年度はダイヤモンド様グラファイト(diamond like carbon=DLC)の炭素の電子状態、Rh、 Pt単結晶の表面・バルク電子状態を放射光を用いた高分解能光電子分光実験により詳細に調べた。主な研究成果を以下に示す。
1.DLCは、その機械的、物理的特性から広く産業利用されている。DLCに含まれる炭素は化学的に異なるC-H結合、C-C結合を形成している。本研究ではそれをマルチサイトとみなし、各々の結合の割合と物理的特性との関係を調べた。Clsの高分解能光電子スペクトルを測定してその形状を定量的に解析した結果、電気的特性とC-H結合の多寡が密接に関連していることを明らかにした。
2.一般に物質の表面においては周期性が途絶えているためにバルクとは異なる電子状態をもつ。本研究ではそれをマルチサイトとみなし研究を行った。自動車排気ガスの触媒として重要な希少金属Rhの(110)および(100)面を用いて電子構造(フェルミ面、バンド分散)を角度分解光電子分光実験により明らかにした。光電子スペクトルの精密解析によりRhのΣ_1バンドにおける電子-格子結合定数をλ=0.15と初めて見積った。また表面電子状態に由来するフェルミ面を初めて明らかにした。
3.代表的な触媒であり希少金属であるPtの(111)清浄表面の電子状態を調べた。(111)面には(100)や(110)面に存在する表面再構成が存在しない。しかしバルク電子状態とは異なる表面電子状態が出現しており、表面物性と密接に関連している。本研究では、放射光の励起光エネルギーをかえて垂直放出の角度分解光電子分光実験を詳細に行ない、バルクバンドと表面電子状態を明らかにした。
