Research Abstract

申請課題最終年度にあたる2007年度(繰越期間2008年度含む)においては、昨年度までに採取したオーストリラア北東部の分析を進めると共に、新たにタスマニア島における広範囲のマントル岩石の採取を行った。この試料採取は2006年度内に予察的に行ったタスマニア産試料の分析結果に基づくものであり、希ガス分析を行うために新鮮かつ大量の試料の取得を目的としたものである。タスマニア島北部にはマントルプルームの存在が示唆されており、希ガス同位体を元にその有無を議論するには欠かせない試料である。新規に採取した試料について我々が開発した高感度希ガス分析システムにてヘリウムからゼノンまでの全希ガス存在度および同位体組成の分析を行うことに成功したが、マントルプルームの存在を示唆するような希ガス同位体情報を得ることは出来なかった。
また、最終年度に当たるため、成果の発表を積極的に行った。昨年度来得たオーストラリア北東部産の試料の希ガス同位体に関する論文は国際誌であるChemical Geologyに受理され印刷中である。また、期間中に研究を行ったイタリアフィネロ地域産のマントルかんらん岩の微量元素に関する論文も期間中にChemical Geology誌にて発表した。これらを元に、希ガスや微量元素のマントル内での移動様式や存在形態に関する新しい知見が得られたと考えている。加えて、マントルプルームのアルゴン同位体組成に関する新しいモデルを我々が行ったハワイ試料の分析結果を基に論じた静文をGeochemical Journal誌にて発表した。また、期間中の分析上の成果としてはアルゴンの同位体測定制度とイオンコレクターの特性に関する論文をJournal of mass spectrometry Society of Japan誌にて発表した。以上のように3カ年の本研究課題の締めくくりとして複数の論文を発表するに至った。高圧実験から天然試料の分析を通じて表層から深部までのリンクを探る一連の研究を行い、マントル深部の特に重い希ガス(アルゴン、クリプトン、ゼノン)については、沈み込みによって持ち込まれる成分がその同位体組成を支配している可能性があることを示すことが出来たこと、そしてそれが同じ分野の他の研究者にとっても検証が必要な重要なモデルの一つであると認識されたことが、本研究を通じて得ることができた大きな成果だと考えている。
