Research Abstract

放射線帯の高エネルギー電子の消失過程において、波動粒子相互作用がどの程度寄与しているかを評価するために、波動粒子相互作用のプロセスを組み込んだ内部磁気圏のグローバルなモデルの開発を行った。研究3年次においては、リングカレントのイオンが励起するイオンサイクロトロン波動(EMIC)と放射線帯電子との相互作用のモジュールを新たに導入し、EMIC波動による放射線帯電子の消失のシミュレーションを行った。シミュレーションの結果、リングカレントイオンの持つ温度異方性によって励起するEMIC波動が、数十keV帯のイオンおよびMeV帯の電子のピッチ角散乱を引き起こす様子が観測された。また、MeV帯電子のピッチ角散乱は、その共鳴条件が背景のプラズマ密度、磁場強度に敏感に反応するために、イオンの散乱が起きている場所と、電子の散乱が起きている場所がしばしば異なり、電子のピッチ角散乱は限局的におこっていることが明かになった。これらの結果について、現在、国際学術誌に論文を投稿中である。
また、太陽風-放射線帯相互作用の研究を進め、放射線帯外帯の増加が太陽風の速度だけではなく、IMFの微小な南向き成分に大きく制御されていることを明かにした。このIMF依存性は、磁気圏でのプラズマシート電子の連続注入と、その結果としておこるホイッスラー波動の励起および非断熱粒子加速を制御しており、高速太陽風が到来したときの放射線帯増加過程について、太陽風状態と粒子加速メカニズムとのつながりを明かにした。これらの成果は、3本の主著論文としてJournal of Geophysical ResearchおよびJournal of Atmosphere and Solar-Terrestrial Physicsに発表した。
