| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Our study had two objectives: (1) to formulate a new concept of "Industrial Literature" which is not limited to the framework of nation-state, and (2) to construct an interdisciplinary theory to capture the experiences of people in the face of the transition from industrialization to de-industrialization. In order to contextualize "Industrial Literature" in modern history as a whole, including both industrialization and de-industrialization, it is necessary to have a transnational or global perspective, assuming the mixed nature of the nation-state. Aiming, therefore, to redefine "Industrial Literature" not confined to the narrow framework of class or nation, our study covered the works which had been underestimated or disregarded in the previous studies. In so doing, it made a theoretical intervention in relevant matters through interdisciplinary approaches, drawing on, among others, modernism, postcolonial and gender studies.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
都市的なモダニズムを中心としてきた英米文学研究で従来比較的顧みられずにいた「産業文学」に着目し、それをグローバルに進展した産業化と脱産業化のプロセスの文脈に位置づけた。さらに労働者階級文学の視点とポストコロニアル研究およびジェンダー研究の成果との統合を図った。そうした試みを国際的な共同研究のかたちで進めた。本研究が目指すような「産業文学」の新たな全体像を浮かびあがらせることによって、従来的な文学史の書き換えを示唆した。私たちの生きる現在がいかなる近代の歴史と系譜のもとにあるのか、という問題意識を手放さずに本研究を進めてゆき、現代文化を考える際の重要なパースペクティヴを提示することができた。
