Outline of Final Research Achievements

In this project, a variety of experimental approaches were taken to investigate the effect of wall frictional drag reduction realized in turbulent boundary layers by injection of bubbles. Introducing the state-of-the-arts technique for measurement of complex high-speed two-phase turbulent flow, the fluid mechanics of drag reduction was explored. Moreover, such accumulated knowledges were utilized for actual design of the drag reduction control system applicable to large marine vessels, and its performance was demonstrated. These results were published in many international journals, indicating our presence of the research and development of this field.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本課題は,海洋からの温暖化ガス排出削減の国際的目標である2050年までの50%の削減,2080年までの完全ゼロエミッションに向けた基盤技術の開発として位置づけられ,策定された.開発目標は,大型船舶の乱流摩擦抵抗の低減であり,その中で最も伸び代が大きな空気潤滑法を対象として成果を得た.本課題では5大学と海上技術安全研究所の連携により,大小様々な気泡の活用方法,壁面コーティング法,およびそれらのアクティブ制御,ならびに大容量微細気泡発生技術の開発を実施した.局所最大抵抗低減は75%に達し,大型航船でも平均抵抗低減15%をクリアした.これらの成果を基礎として国際的共同研究を推進する体制が整った.
