Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This project aimed to establish the science of catalytic reactions by surface ionics at low temperatures under an applied electric field, and to develop its application. As a result, we were able to construct a low-temperature reaction system (in the 100°C range) that utilises highly controlled surface ionics in endothermic reactions such as the reforming of methane with carbon dioxide and reverse water gas shift, and elucidate the science behind this. This has paved the way for the next generation of on-demand, low-temperature-operated catalytic processes. We were also able to establish an evaluation method for surface solid-state ionics on semiconductor supports and systematise it.
