| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In our research, we investigated the stucco technique applied to the Sienese frescoes, in Siena, San Gimignano and Avignon in France. The investigation we revealed that part of the San Gimignano Collegiate Church fresco, The Tradition of the New Testament, was decorated with a halo decoration using a non-stucco technique in this field study. In our research, we determined that this technique is based on pastelliano, a technique that made of beeswax as the main material. In addition, it was found that Carlo Crivelli used the pastelliano technique for his tempera paintings. we clarified the identification of materials and the process of technique of this pastelliano.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本科研の最大の学術的意義は、サン・ジミニャーノ参事会教会に描かれた『新約聖書伝』の円光において、他の技法例と全く異なる円光装飾の発見である。この学術的意義は，一般的に考えられている石灰漆喰のストゥッコ装飾によるものではなく、蜜蝋を主材料とした盛り上げ技法（パステッリャーノ）であることを明らかにした点である。この技法のメリットは、工房で前もって制作した装飾パーツを描画が完全に仕上がった後に施工部分に接着することが可能となる。装飾パーツを工房で制作することが可能となるため、精細で技巧性の高いものをつくることができる。一方、デメリットとしては、ストゥッコと比べると劣化が激しいことである。
