Outline of Final Research Achievements

Among the 122 pregnant women who agreed to participate in the birth cohort study, we examined the dietary quality of 108 women using the Nutrient-Rich Food Index 9.3 and the energy-adjusted dietary inflammatory index. Higher Nutrient-Rich Food Index 9.3 scores and lower E-DII were associated with higher vegetable and fruit intakes. We also developed a mock smart-phone app to identify balanced meal intake for pregnant women.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

妊娠中の栄養摂取状態の評価方法として、簡便で客観的とされてきたのが妊娠前の体格（BMI）と妊娠中の体重増加量であった。とくに日本人妊婦では妊娠前の体格が「やせ」の割合が約5人に1人と高く、体重増加量も少ないことが近年の低出生体重児の増加に寄与していると考えられてきた。しかし、本来目標とすべきことは妊婦や胎児の健康維持に必要な栄養摂取であり、これを可能にするための具体的な食事提案である。本研究から、野菜と果物を積極的に取り入れることの重要性が改めて示された。
