Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study focuses on shodan calligraphy societies, which were actively organized in modern East Asia, and aims to provide a structural trace of their formation process through a comparative analysis of the three regions of Japan, China, and Korea (South Korea). Through individual study in each of the three regions and comparative regional study at two symposiums, it became apparent that the formation of each shodan reflects the unique circumstances of each region, such as perceptions of calligraphy, painting, and art; emphasis on production, appreciation, and study; organizational hierarchy; and the degree of the pursuit of profit. Such circumstances could thus serve as effective indicators for typologically understanding shodan in each region.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
