Social norms are the system of implicit rules of a society. Understanding the emergence and maintenance of social norms is a central issue in the social sciences. In the current research project, we aimed to explore he emergence of social norms relying upon a theoretical framework called the gene-culture coevolution. Through two experimental and two theoretical studies, we examined the evolution of mental dispositions to internalize norms and the process by which social norms are acquired and maintained in a society. It has been demonstrate the role of the learning in the acquisition and maintenance of norms.
