Outline of Annual Research Achievements

電解質と高分子半導体の混合薄膜に対して電圧印加を行うことで、イオンの再配列を促し、自発的なp-i-n接合を形成して発光する素子Light-emitting electrochemical cell (LEC) の研究を行った。特に、動作メカニズム理解とそれに基づいた高性能化、ならびに無機半導体材料への展開を目指した。LECのドーピングメカニズムの理解のためには、ラマン分光、UV-Vis吸収分光を用い、高分子半導体のドーピング過程を分光法によって追跡することに成功した。電圧、時間に対してのスペクトル変化を詳細に解析を進めることで駆動や劣化メカニズムを追跡する手段として用いることができると考えられる。また、LECの高効率発光を目指し、発光層にホスト-ゲストシステムを導入した。このためにワイドバンドギャップ(>3 eV)を有するポリマーで安定な青色LECを実現し、これをホストとして様々な発光ドーパントを用いた素子を実現し、高効率化出来ることを示した。また新たな展開として、LECのメカニズムを酸化物半導体や窒化ガリウム、あるいは遷移金属ダイカルコゲナイド等の無機半導体へ展開することを試みた。いずれの材料でも、バンドギャップに相当する極めて低い電圧から発光が観察され始め、LECの技術が従来展開されていた有機半導体のみならず、様々な半導体に適用できることを始めて示した。このことは、電気化学とエレクトロニクスの複合化技術「イオントロニクス」の新たな展開を期待させるものであると考えている。
