Outline of Final Research Achievements

Tau neutrino is the least known elementally particle among 6 quarks and 6 lepton family. We proposed the SHiP experiment aiming to study tau neutrino properties with three order of magnitude larger statistics than previous discovery experiment. In 2015, we proposed experiment, since then, we carry out test experiments and detector optimization for the comprehensive design study report. In 2019, we finalize the report.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

タウニュートリノはその発見以来最もその性質が調べられていない基本粒子で、特にノーベル賞も与えられたニュートリノ質量の発見が示唆する標準理論を超える物理への糸口として注目が集まっている。宇宙論からも存在が示唆されるも未だ発見に至らないダークマターの解明につながる有力な糸口が第3世代レプトンのタウニュートリノである。
近年B中間子のタウニュートリノを崩壊にあおて、理論予想からのズレが複数の実験から報告され、ますますタウニュートリノの重要性は高まっている。ダークマターの解明や標準理論を超える物理への糸口としてタウニュートリノの詳細研究実験を実施することは重要で、その計画立案に大きな役割を果たした。
