Outline of Annual Research Achievements

長さ4mの岩石試料を用いた2軸摩擦試験機による岩石摩擦実験を行なった。その際測定された不安定すべりは、岩石の両端から初期のゆっくりすべりが開始し、徐々に中心部に向い、すべり残りがあるサイズになった時点で不安定すべりに移行し、中心部の滑りの腰部分を破壊したのち、両端に向かって高速すべりが伝播する様子が、ひずみゲージ、渦電流変位計、AEセンサーのアレイによって捉えられている。この現象は、沈み込み帯におけるプレート境界上で発生している繰り返し地震の解析によって得られているアスペリティ周囲の定常的なすべりとアスペリティの周期的な破壊により繰り返し地震が発生する現象と類似性が高く、プレート境界において発生している不均質すべり現象のアナログ現象として、詳細な解析の意義のあるデータを得ることができた。得られたデータから、ゆっくりすべりから高速すべりへ移行する際のクラックの臨界サイズを測定し、Uenishi & Rice (2003)らが提唱している震源核サイズと定性的に合致することが確かめられ、震源核サイズが断層摩擦の性質で決まることが実験的に裏付けられた。また、不安定すべりの発生に先立ち、多数の前震の発生も確認されている。これらの前震活動は、断層面の不均質さと関連があり、断層面の性質を変化させると前震活動の様子が変化することが実験的に確認されており、前震活動は断層面上での剪断応力分布を反映しているものと考えられる。

Reason

4m長の岩石試料を用いた岩石摩擦試験機により、実際に自然界で観測されている現象と類似したデータが十分な再現性をもって得られており、今後のさらなるデータの解析により、その発生メカニズムの解明に寄与できるものと考える。当初の予定通り、これまではゆっくりすべりの動向を捉えやすい歪みゲージのデータの解析を主に行ってきたが、これからは前震活動の詳細の把握がしやすいAEセンサーの解析を行っていく予定である。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

プロジェクトは、問題なく進展しているので、特に推進方策の変更はない。
各種センサーの設置密度を上げ、破壊伝播速度や前震活動の測定制度のさらなる向上を図り、断層すべりと断層面の性質との関係、断層面の応力蓄積状態や断層面強度分布と破壊の生成伝播の詳細な関係を調べ、初期破壊の成長、不安定破壊への移行、破壊伝播の加速/減速、supershear破壊伝播モードへの移行などをコントロールする要因を精密に調査していく予定である。
