Outline of Final Research Achievements

Plant regeneration is enhanced by auxin and cytokinin but molecular mechanisms underlying this control still remains obscure. In this study we developed a comprehensive gene regulatory network for plant regeneration based on enhanced yeast-one-hybrid analysis.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

植物ホルモンを用いた組織培養技術の確立は20世紀の植物生理学の発展の金字塔のひとつといっても過言ではないが、そのしくみについては驚くほど分かっていない。本研究は植物の器官再生を司る鍵遺伝子の転写制御関係を包括的に明らかにしようとする点に学術的意義がある。近年ゲノム編集技術が急速に進歩しているが、多くの主要作物において形質転換後の器官再生、特に茎葉再生の効率の低さが大きなボトルネックとなっている。本研究から茎葉再生制御のしくみが明らかになれば新たな組織培養技術の開発につながり、こうした問題の解決に貢献するものと期待される。
