Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The present study investigated whether heart rate activity relates to personal distress elicited by other’s negative emotions and empathic concern for distressed other. As a result, we found an inverted U-shaped relationship between heart rate deceleration, which reflects activity of parasympathetic nerve system, and two empathy-related reactions: personal distress and empathic concern.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
