Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This research investigates the impact of dual job-holding on occupational mobility. The skills accumulation for occupational mobility has been pointed out as one of the motives of dual job-holding. In this research project, we empirically explore and analyze how transferable skills acquired through dual job-holding function and help for successful occupational mobility. First, we obtain empirical results suggesting that previous experiences of dual job-holding or skills gained through dual job-holding may affect the determinants and directions of occupational mobility, and moreover downward/upward career switches on the skill ladder, which is vertical ranking of occupations, in Estonia’s economic transition. Furthermore, we clarify current peculiarities of dual job-holding in the Japanese labor market in comparison with those in U.S. labor market.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
