Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Understanding speciation and diversification is important in evolutionary biology. In this project, I used 5 Acropora genomes to investigate introgression and whole genome duplication (WGD) in coral reefs. I found the genomic evidence to support introgression and WGD, and illustrated the importance of introgression and WGD to speciation and diversification of Acropora. In addition, I have published the related pipeline in public for other researcher to repeat my work or apply their work with my developed methods. Please see (https://github.com/MaoYafei)
The related work has been published in Current biology (Mao, Yafei, Evan P. Economo, and Noriyuki Satoh. "The roles of introgression and climate change in the rise to dominance of Acropora Corals." These work provides new insights into coral resilience, as well as coral reef biodiversity and conservation.
