Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
We completed the genome of Amphidinium gibbosum and using an integrated omics approach, we surveyed the mechanisms of secondary metabolite biosynthesis. We combined genomics, transcriptomics and microRNAomics using sequencing data from Illumina and Pacbio. We identified key enzymes needed to make secondary metabolites. We also found that under nutrient conditions ( nitrate), secondary metabolites biosynthesis is downregulated because of the probably role of a miRNA.Such information is helpful in helping understand harmful algal bloom formation. We also identified several molecular events such as alternative splicing in secondary metabolite genes, that affect their expression. Taken together, we propose 2 strategies for the synthesis of secondary metabolites in dinoflagellates that include iterative use of enzymes.
