Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本年度は、非平衡開放多体量子系の研究を行い、流入と流出のある非平衡二成分凝縮体(例:励起子ポラリトン凝縮体、プラズモニック格子凝縮体、二重井戸ポテンシャル中の流入・流出のあるボーズ凝縮体)において、通常の臨界現象とは本質的に異なる、新しい機構による動的臨界現象が現れることを明らかにした。

通常、臨界現象は、自由エネルギーが臨界点近くで平らになり、振幅モードがソフト化することによって生じる。このとき、振幅モードとゴールドストーンモードは常に直交している。しかし、我々の研究対象である流入と流出のある多体系では、系の集団的運動が非エルミート的となるため、これらが非直交となることが許される。我々は、その結果、振幅モードがゴールドストーンモードと「合流」した点である「臨界例外点」が現れることを明らかにした。臨界例外点では、生じうる集団モードがゴールドストーンモードに限定されているいるため、すべての熱的ノイズ・非平衡ノイズにより生じた揺らぎがゴールドストーンモードへと変換される。これが、空間4次元以下で発散する、異常に大きな揺らぎが発達した、特異な臨界現象をもたらすことを示した。さらに臨界例外点近傍において動的繰り込み群解析を行った結果、空間8次元近傍においてHohenberg and Halperinによる分類にはない、新たなユニバーサリティークラスに属するWilson-Fisher fixed pointが現れることを示し、強相関効果が異常に大きな揺らぎにより異常に発達していることを示すことに成功した。
以上の成果に加え、Pittsburgh大学のSnokeグループおよびNRELのMascarenhasグループと共同で、ポラリトン凝縮体の量子揺らぎによるHiggsモードの観測に成功した他、冷却原子系において、非平衡性による強相関効果の増大する方法を提案した。
