Outline of Annual Research Achievements

200℃程度でも高い発光量を有する新規パイロシリケート型シンチレータ結晶(RE2Si2O7, RE = 希土類イオン)の開発およびワイドバンドギャップと高発光量の関係の解明に向けた複合希土類パイロシリケート型シンチレータ単結晶の開発として、発光中心としてCeを添加したRE2Si2O7焼結体(Ce:RE2Si2O7)を作製し、結晶構造と発光特性の関係を評価した。
固相反応法を用いて合成したCe:RE2Si2O7焼結体の粉末X線回折測定の結果からREの平均イオン半径が大きくなるにつれて、結晶系(空間群)が単斜晶系(C2/m)、直方晶系(Pna21)、単斜晶系(P21/c)の順に変化していくことが確認できた。結晶構造解析の結果から、RE-O平均結合長さとREの平均イオン半径には強い正の相関がある一方で、希土類サイトの結晶場の対称性(電荷の偏り)とREの平均イオン半径にも正の相関があることが明らかになった。
フォトルミネッセンス励起・発光スペクトル測定により発光特性を評価したところ、単斜晶系(C2/m)の試料はREの平均イオン半径が大きくなると発光波長は長波長にシフトし、直方晶系(Pna21)および単斜晶系(P21/c)の試料は短波長にシフトした。これより、単斜晶系(C2/m)においては結晶場の対称性(電荷の偏り)による影響、斜方晶系(Pna21)および単斜晶系(P21/c)においては結晶場の強さによる影響が大きいことがわかった。量子収率の温度特性評価を行った結果、発光波長が短波長になるほど温度消光が抑制される傾向がみられ、Ce:RE2Si2O7の温度消光は熱緩和による影響が大きいことがわかった。採用第二年度に作製したCe添加(LaxGd0.985-x)2Si2O7 (x = 0.25, 0.30, 0.35, 0.40, 0.45)についても焼結体試料でみられた傾向と一致した。
