Outline of Annual Research Achievements

昨今の素粒子物理学の研究おいては、標準理論を超えた新物理の探求が盛んに行われている。中でも、荷電レプトンフレーバーの破れと呼ばれる未発見の現象は新物理の決定的な証拠であり、その実験的検証が注目を浴びている。私は国際共同MEG II実験に参加しており、スイスのポール・シェラー研究所の世界最高強度直流ミュー粒子ビームを用いて、ミュー粒子の荷電レプトンフレーバーの破れの探索へ向けた研究開発を行ってきた。さらにMEG実験のデータの解析も行い、新現象を探索する。その結果をもとに、素粒子の大統一理論の検証を目指す。

以上の目的のために、最終年度である2019年度は、物理解析に重点をおいて研究を遂行した。近年、様々な実験において軽い物理の探索が盛んに行われていることから、MEG実験の5年間分の全データを用いて、軽い新粒子によって媒介されるミュー粒子の荷電レプトンフレーバーの破れの探索解析を行った。イタリア・アメリカの共同研究者とともに活発な議論を繰り返し、再構成アルゴリズムの開発や物理解析を一新することで、先行研究を上回る感度での探索を行うことができた。残念ながら新粒子の発見には至らなかったが、世界で最も厳しい制限を与えることができた。さらに、MEG II実験において感度の改善が期待できる可能性も示した。この結果は、荷電レプトンフレーバーの破れという文脈においても、軽い新物理という文脈においても重要な結果である。
