Outline of Annual Research Achievements

平成30年度は現生主竜類全体において,胃石から胃の情報抽出方法の構築と,その手法の化石主竜類への応用に取り組んだ.現生主竜類の胃石と胃の特徴のデータベースを構築するため,北海道大学総合博物館および北海道大学植物園が所蔵する鳥類およびワニ類の解剖を行い,現時点で115種368個体のデータを取得した.観察の結果,現生主竜類において胃の特殊化は複数回生じていること,それらは食性の変遷と連動していることが判明した.このことから,食性変化と胃の構造進化は緊密関係を持つことが推察される.加えて,胃石の特徴は生物の食性および胃の筋量に影響されることが判明した.この結果は平成29年度に行った動物実験の結果と整合的である.
化石主竜類の胃石データ収集のため,デンバー自然史科学博物館,アリゾナソノラ砂漠博物館,ニューメキシコ自然史科学博物館,フィールド自然史博物館,国立自然史博物館,ニュージャージー州立博物館,モンゴル古生物学地質学研究所,中国科学院古脊椎動物考古人類研究所を訪問した.観察の結果,肉食性とされる種と植物食性とされる種は明瞭に胃石の特徴が異なる事が判明した.加えて系統関係を考慮すると,肉食性-植物食性の中間的特徴を持つ胃石も確認されるため,胃の構造進化が遷移的に生じた可能性がある.複数の分類群で胃石の特徴変化が認められることから,食性の変遷とそれに伴う胃の特殊化は恐竜類においても複数回生じていた事が明らかとなった.本結果によって恐竜類の消化器官の進化は柔軟性を持つ事が示唆された.一方で,化石ワニ類の胃石の特徴に大きな差異は見られず,白亜紀の鳥類では種によって胃石の特徴に差が出る事が判明した.このことから,主竜類の進化過程において胃石を用いた消化システムの獲得の柔軟性は恐竜類の登場以降に獲得されたと推察できる.
