Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
This study aims to assess the sustainability of P fertilizers consumption in a country. We has developed a Social Life Cycle Assessment (SLCA) framework to semi-quantify the "hidden" social impacts in a systematic manner. These include issues like P security of countries without the resource, human right conflicts in mining countries, etc. Our results showed that, although producing recycled-P fertilizers cost more than importing mineral-P fertilizers, social impacts in the supply chains could mostly be alleviated. A case study of Japan using the developed framework has been published in journal, Sustainability, in July 2017, “Support Phosphorus Recycling Policy with Social Life Cycle Assessment: A Case of Japan” by the researcher.
