Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Based on the classification of Japanese Dysphagia Diet 2013, we examined the usage and formulation of gelling agents and thickening agents for swallowing-adjusted foods and thickening food. The changes in physical properties and flow characteristics in the above during swallowing were visualized using MRI movie. We also attempted the flow evaluation of the thickening food in the oropharyngeal area on each MRI image over time. As a result of comparative examination of image resolution and image positioning, we were able to obtain results similar to those obtained by X-ray swallowing videofluorography (VF) and swallowing videoendoscopy (VE). We hope that this non-invasive, radiation-free method will be put to practical use in clinical settings.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
現在、臨床で、患者の摂食・嚥下の状態を把握することを目的として、X線嚥下造影検査(VF)や嚥下内視鏡検査(VE)が広く一般に用いられている。これらの手法は、侵襲性があり、放射線被曝という問題を有している。そのため、臨床的に使用されることはあっても、研究目的で、健常者に対して使用することは、倫理上、好ましくないとされている。今回、我々の研究で用いたMRI動画記録法という手法は、非侵襲的で、放射線被曝の問題がないため、摂食・嚥下の研究や臨床において導入されることになれば、本研究の学術的かつ社会的意義は非常に大きいと考える。
