Outline of Final Research Achievements

We investigated the transporter proteins in order to clarify molecular mechanisms of vitamin transport. We have demonstrated that ABCB6 and ABCG5/ABCG8 transport vitamin B12 and vitamin K respectively and that NPC1L1 binds vitamin E, vitamin K, and siphonaxanthin. These findings suggest that ABCG5/ABCG8 and NPC1L1 may play important roles in regulation of hydrophobic vitamins absorption.

本研究によって、未解明であるビタミン輸送担体の実態が明らかになり、ビタミン吸収の分子機構におけるミッシングリンクをつなぐこととなる。トランスポーターに着目したビタミンの効率的な吸収を可能にする食品、健康食品の開発や、トランスポーターによる輸送も考慮に入れた食生活の提案への応用も期待される。
