Outline of Final Research Achievements

In this study, we have developed and implemented in 2019 a teacher education program for mathematical modelling for in-service and pre-service teachers that incorporates the transformation of a formulated mathematical task in textbooks into mathematical modelling tasks, and research lesson based on these tasks. A detailed analysis of the data from the implemented program revealed that teacher education program method was effective in the following ways. It enables novice modelling teachers to: (1) understand the characteristics of each criterion of the modelling task, through activities that transform familiar textbook mathematised tasks into modelling tasks, and (2) develop and implement modelling lessons incorporating examples from students' realities, through lesson study during discussions with teachers from different backgrounds and researchers.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

生徒・児童の数学的モデリング活動を促進するためには,教師の役割は重要である.しかしながら,国外における数学的モデリングの教師教育は,多くの課題を抱えているのが現状である.本研究における教師教育プログラムは,学術研究者,実践研究者,現職教員のお互いの専門的領域の知識を共有し「共に学び共に成長する」形態で実施しており,その手法と成果は,わが国独自の研究スタイルとして学術的意義がある.
一方,わが国の学習指導要領算数・数学科では,数学的な見方・考え方を働かせた数学的モデリングが強調されているため,本研究の成果は,数学的モデリング授業の構想力・展開力・省察力の力量形成に繋がる点で社会的意義がある.
