| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In order to address depopulation in France, approximately 150 villages formed the "The Most Beautiful Villages in France" association to safeguard their historical heritage. The investigation into this framework revealed that it is upheld and managed through a registered trademark, creating a high-quality image, and serving as a framework to enhance the value of economically vulnerable villages. The survey conducted on accommodations and member municipalities in Japan's "The Most Beautiful Villages" alliance has highlighted a challenge: the establishment of a strong and recognized image, similar to that of France, has not yet been achieved. However, the results of the travel survey during the COVID-19 pandemic indicate the potential for the villages to be chosen as travel destinations in the future. The findings also demonstrate that the environmental activities and event planning carried out by residents of member municipalities contribute to the revitalization of the villages.

フランスの先進事例は、過疎が進む地域においても景観、歴史・文化等の一定の基準を満たした観光資源を活かしながら、「連合」というネットワークを構築することで観光客の受入れや交流人口の増加が見込めることを示している。そのためには、「最も美しい村」という強力なブランドを確立し、保証、管理することや継続的なプロモーションが欠かせない。我が国の場合「連合」が未だ十分認知されていないことから加盟自治体を増やしながらブランドの構築と効果的なPRを継続して実施することが重要である。住民の主体的な地域活動へも交流・関係人口につながることから学術・社会両面から今後も必要な政策を示したと考えている。
