Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The purpose of this study is to elucidate the characteristics of Buddhist statues in the Owari region by investigating unexamined Buddhist statues in temples in the Owari region of Aichi prefecture and considering them from the perspectives of (1) Influence from the center and (2) Characteristics of the Owari region. Since the Owari region is close to the cultural center of Kansai region and the culture is easily spread, there are many excellent Buddhist statues that are not inferior to the statues made in the cultural center. However, there were also Buddhist statues that were uniquely modified from the statue made in the cultural center, and statues made using removable techniques. It is also interesting that among the statues from the early modern period, Buddha statues in the Obaku style are often found in temples other than the Obaku sect. It is probable that there were creators of Buddhist statues in the Obaku style in each area of Owari, Mikawa, and Gifu.
