| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This research explores how L2 users of Japanese living in Japan learn Japanese language, and how learner autonomy is promoted in the social context around them. Moreover, this research aims to produce life stories of L2 users, which are rich descriptions of their experiences in Japan, and to create a website as a platform of learning Japanese. The results show that appropriating voices enables them to participate in Japanese society and that the exercise of learner autonomy, enabled by contextual affordances, leads to the construction of social agency in Japanese society. Although the life stories have been published online, the potential of the resource to enhance Japanese learning and support foreign residents still needs to be examined.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
質的研究法を用いて、日本語学習や学習者の主体性である学習者オートノミーを社会的文脈から捉えることによって、日本語や日本語学習にまつわる事象は、外国人に焦点当てるだけでは不十分であり、手話を用いるろう者やその家族の日本語使用や日本社会への参加とその主体性をも視野に入れるべきであることが明らかとなった。その結果から、今後の日本語教育が取り組む課題は日本社会に根付く音声日本語ネイティブスピーカリズムであり、音声日本語以外の言語を母語、あるいは 第一言語とする人々が有する日本社会における権利と自由をどのように保障していくのかという点から再構築するべきであるという示唆を得ることができたと言える。
