Outline of Final Research Achievements

This research evaluated the impact of educational activities like English Model United Nations and Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) on improving Japanese university students' English literacy and communication. Analyzing six years of data, it found: 1) Students' English use shifted towards prioritizing content communication, and 2) They employed linguistic strategies based on their counterpart's English proficiency. These findings offer fresh insights into English education in Japan.

英語をリンガフランカとして認識することで、日本の英語教育の視点を変革する意義を持つ。英語母語話者を目標や基準にする従来の観点から、より包括的な視野、すなわちグローバル英語使用者としての視点へとシフトさせる可能性を示している。この視点の変化は、英語教育の実践と理論における新たな枠組みを提供し、社会的にも更なるグローバルコミュニケーションの可能性を広げることができる。
