Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The purpose of this study was to clarify the formation of industrial regions in modern Japan and the process of development and restructuring of "living infrastructure" . In this study, "livelihood infrastructure" includes not only food, clothing, and housing, but also social services such as sanitation, education, and welfare. The study area was set in the Bisai textile industry region of Aichi Prefecture and the urban areas of Tokyo and Osaka, as areas that had undergone significant changes due to industrialization. There were two main research themes. The first theme was "food," and the study elucidated the food space in factories and urban areas. The second theme was "sanitation," and included discussions on excretion, fertilizers, and material circulation. It became clear that the development and reorganization of the living infrastructure was an important element in the structural transformation of regions and industries.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
