| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In this research, the competitive positions of primary cities in Asia and Japan were clarified as international air traffic hubs. The research also verified quantitatively the economic effects of industrial agglomeration both in aircraft and shipbuilding sectors in Japan.
The results confirm the dynamic change of the air transport city hierarchy in Asia, demonstrating a stronger presence of three primary cities in mainland China (Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou) and secondly ranked cities (Seoul, Taipei, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, etc.) as international air traffic hubs. These cities are rapidly expanding their aviation networks. The results also reveal a stronger evidence of Jacobs type of externalities (industrial varieties) in the aircraft industry and that of MAR type of externalities (localization economies) in the shipbuilding industry.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本研究では、国際航空流動（需要側面）と国際航空ネットワーク（供給側面）の両側面から、アジア主要国際空港との比較の下で、我が国における国際拠点空港の拠点性を定量的に検証したが、このような需要と供給の両側面から、空港の拠点性を検証した先行研究は存在しない。そして、本研究では、我が国の航空製造部門と海事製造部門における集積の経済効果を検証したが、このような産業細分類で集積の経済効果を検証した先行研究も存在しない。
したがって、本研究は、従来の分析手法や分析対象では明らかにできなかった新たな知見を獲得することに成功しており、その意味で、本研究の学術的意義および社会的意義は極めて大きいと確信する。
