Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Thanks to advances in medical techniques, many patients with congenital heart disease (CHD) can reach adulthood, and a smooth transition from childhood to adulthood has become a challenge. This study aimed to examine the characteristics of social independence and career development in patients with CHD and ultimately to develop employment support tools for patients. As for the patients' employment situation, there was a high unemployment rate for both men and women. In addition, the developmental process leading up to adulthood was found to have difficulties in forming identity, and the developmental process differed depending on how patients made meaning of their experiences. Based on these findings, a booklet (employment support tool) was developed to help patients independently think about their disease and employment and access information on available employment support.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
