| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This research set out to identify necessary factors in the development of an internal organizational culture characterized by collaboration between faculty and administrative staff ("kyoshoku kyodo" in Japanese) for the effective management of university internationalization. Careful examination of previous research found that the role of senior international officers (SIOs) was crucial to creating an effective organizational culture. After conducting interview surveys overseas, we distributed a questionnaire based on AIEA's SIO survey in the U.S. to SIOs at Japanese universities to explore their profiles. The study found some structural and cultural differences between the two countries regarding the human resource management of SIOs. Japanese universities should pay attention to the differences when making a reform plan to shift from appointment-based SIOs to professional-based SIOs in order to promote effective “kyoshoku kyodo” collaboration for university internationalization.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
多くの日本の大学が採用する教員と職員の並列的組織構造は、国際的には普遍的特徴とはいえない。特に、高度な専門性が求められる大学国際化においては、国際系組織の中でほぼ完結する責任・裁量体制において専門職を配し、主として彼らの職場経験の蓄積によって専門性を高め、大学国際化アドミニストレーターとしての高度専門職を育成する形式が欧米諸国を中心に見られる。本研究では、こうした大学国際化専門職の育成構造の違いを海外調査により明らかにした。さらに、日本の大学国際化専門職の職能開発体制、責任体制、抱える課題等を体系的に調査した国内初の調査を実施し、大学国際化マネジメントの実態の一部を社会に発信することができた。
