| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This research found that, first, in terms of function, correspondence high schools guarantee teens the opportunity to receive education. On the contrary, correspondence universities function related to vocational education and rechallenging dropouts of other higher education institutions. Second, according to teachers’ perceptions, although correspondence high schools’ graduation qualifications previously functioned as sufficient educational background in the society, their current qualifications are changing to basic. In addition, expectation of sufficient educational background is moving to correspondence universities.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
進学率の上昇により、高校卒業の意味、大学卒業の意味は変貌と遂げていると考えられる。だが、かつて高校卒業に見いだされた意味が、大学卒業に移行したかについて、特に学校教育現場でどのように捉えられた方は十分に明らかではない。そうした中、本研究の知見は通信制に限定はされるが、社会の成熟に伴い、高校の果たしていた機能の一部が大学に移行しつつあると教員が感じていることを示しており、高校や大学がどのようにみられるかの検証に一定の示唆を与える。
