本研究ではスイスの価値教育に関して、「市民性への教育」だけでなく、州の裁量で行われることになっている「倫理・宗教文化」の詳細まで含めて明らかにしようとするところに学術的な特色と意義がある。今日、先進諸国の多くが取り組んでいる世界市民の育成について、同じ民主国家でも英米圏や独仏とは異なるスタンス、小国ながら直接民主制と永世中立都市という独自のスタイルを貫くスイスの価値教育、それも倫理と宗教文化にまで踏み込んで解明しようとすることは、今後、日本が自国のアイデンティティや固有の価値を維持しながらグローバル化を進めていこうとする際にも示唆に富み、社会的意義を有している。
