| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Based on the existence problems and the construction problems in algebraic coding theory, we studied same kinds of problems in matroid theory and network coding theory. Then we mainly had the following results: (1) We proved a special case of the Walton-Welsh conjecture on the critical exponents if representable matroids. (2) We gave some constructions of tangential blocks in matroid theory. (3) We proved a matroidal equation and a Wei type duality for rank-metric codes over a finite field.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
符号理論とは，デジタル情報を伝送または記録する際に生じる誤りを理論的に訂正するための誤り訂正符号の理論であり，その代数構造に着目して数理的研究をおこなうことが代数的符号理論である．本研究において得られた研究成果については，主にグラフと符号の広義の統一化が進み，グラフ理論の様々な結果がマトロイドを介して符号理論へフィードバック可能となると予想する．また，準一様符号に対する組合せ論的アプローチより広い意味でネットワーク符号化に関する新たな観点からの応用研究が可能になることが期待される．
