Outline of Final Research Achievements

Focusing on an elementary particle called top quark, the possible extensions of a model called the standard model in elementary particle physics was generally studied without depending on specific extended models.
In this study, neutral current processes in which top quark decays into the up or charm quark were analyzed to give constraints non-standard couplings that induce those decays.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

素粒子は,物質を構成する最小単位であるが,この粒子の振る舞いを理解することは,宇宙の成り立ちを理解することに関係している.この粒子の振る舞いは,素粒子物理学の標準模型によって,高い精度で説明できるが,この模型は,最終的なものではなく,宇宙の構造を理解するためには,拡張が必要である.本研究は,可能な限り一般的に標準模型の拡張性を検討したため,超対称模型等,具体的に標準模型を拡張する手法と相補的な関係にあり,新しい模型構築の礎となり得る.
素粒子物理の新しい模型構築が成功すれば,身の回りの物質や宇宙について,より深い知見が得られ,今日の当たり前を覆すような発見に繋がるかもしれない.
