The objective of this study was to identify the effects of chrysanthemum and bamboo scents. The study was composed of 2 parts: 1. analysis of the volatile components of chrysanthemum and bamboo and the experiment of the effects with healthy subjects; and 2. the experiment of the long term effects of the scents with elderly population in nursing homes. The result of the first part of this study showed that it is impossible to determine the volatile components of chrysanthemum because they are different by the family and the freshness. The result of the second part of this study showed that eucalyptol scent, one of the volatile components of many families of chrysanthemum, can improve the behaviour of alzheimer patients with the long term exposure even with an unperceivable level.
