Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study was designed to examine the effects of active-rest by workplace units on presenteeism, sleep quality and low back pain among workers. White and blue-collar workers and taxi drivers performed our active-rest (short-time exercise) program for 10 minutes per day during their lunch breaks for 8-10 weeks. This exercise program consists of warm-up (stretching), cognitive functional training, aerobic exercise, body weight resistance training, and cool-down activities. The participants’ presenteeism, sleep quality and low back pain were examined at the baseline and after the 8-10 weeks intervention period. After 8-10 weeks intervention, in the intervention group showed improved the presenteeism, sleep quality, the lower leg muscle strength, flexibility and low back pain. These results suggest that the introduction of active-rest by workplace is useful for improving presenteeism, sleep quality and low back pain among workers.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
運動には様々なベネフィットがあることが多数報告されているが,昼休みに職場単位で行うアクティブレストの導入が労働生産性向上に及ぼす効果はこれまで検証されていない。本研究課題は,労働者が昼休みに職場単位で運動を行うことがプレゼンティーズムや睡眠の質,腰痛改善に有効であることを明らかにした点において学術的な意義は大きい。近年,メンタルヘルス不調など労働者の様々な健康障害が社会問題となっており,そのような社会情勢を鑑みて,最近では「健康経営」の概念やその活動が普及している。本研究課題の結果は,「健康経営」をはじめとする職場の健康づくり活動の普及に資するものであり,社会的意義は非常に高いと考えられる。
