Outline of Final Research Achievements |
We have reported that drawing disability may develop after bilateral subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation surgery about half of patients with Parkinson's disease (PD). By using perfusion neuroimage, anterior cingulate cortex was specifically reduced in those who exhibited drawing difficulties which may indicate the involvement of the limbic circuits of PD after surgery. Dopamine transporter imaging was performed in 30 healthy volunteers and showed that verbal intelligence quotient correlate with caudate dopaminergic function. This result may partly explains why elder people, as well as PD patients experience difficulty in verbal fluency. These neuroimaging findings further explain the pathophysiological basis of cognitive symptoms pf patients with PD.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
