Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Aryl Hydrocarbon Receptor (AHR) acts as a transcription factor. It regulates a variety of biological responses. Recently, genome-wide association analysis of atopic dermatitis has identified Ovo-like 1 (OVOL1) as a susceptibility of atopic dermatitis; however, the functions of OVOL1in the skin have not been clear. We found that AHR regulates filaggrin expression via OVOL1, which is important for skin barrier function. Therefore, it is suggested that AHR ligands could be a therapeutic agent for atopic dermatitis.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
