Outline of Final Research Achievements

In this study, we demonstrated the potential of tumor lysis virus therapy as a novel treatment for salivary gland cancer. We showed the cell-killing effect of tumor lysis virus HF10 on human submandibular gland cancer cell line, mouse submandibular gland cancer cell line, and submandibular gland cancer-derived primary culture line. Treatment with both S-1, a prodrug of 5-FU, and HF10 showed more potent antitumor effects than each treatment alone.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

唾液腺癌に対する化学療法、放射線療法の効果は十分でなく、現在有効と示されている治療法は手術療法のみであり、新たな治療法の開発が必要とされている。唾液腺癌も頭頸部扁平上皮癌と同様に腫瘍内治療が可能な腫瘍であり、HF10が新規治療法の選択肢となる可能性が十分考えられる。本研究により腫瘍溶解ウイルス療法を用いた唾液腺癌に対する新規治療法の可能性が示された。
