Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study revealed that ethanol intensified the production of release of NETs. Addition of ethanol enhanced cfDNA (cfDNA, major component of NETs) release from neutrophils stimulated with PMA. Ethanol also enhanced production of reactive oxygen species (ROS)and citrullinated Histon (Cit-H3), which are essential for NETs production and release respectively. Ethanol alone did not produce NETs, ROS and Cit H3. Polymicrobial sepsis was induced by cecal ligation and puncture (CLP) in acute ethanol intoxication. Plasma levels of cfDNA and Cit-H3 was elevated significantly in ethanol-treated mice compared with control mice.
