Outline of Final Research Achievements

In this study, we conducted a basic survey on oral care, developed a model 〝tooth brushing practice (TBP) module" as an educational teaching material based on the survey, and examined the usefulness of the developed model.
TBP was shown to improve tooth-brushing skills through repetitive self-learning, and promote the shift from oral-care skills to those for oral cleaning assistance, supporting its usefulness for the acquisition of skills to assist the cleaning of oral cavities with poor conditions, requiring more difficult clinical practice.
The results also suggest the applicability of TBP as a material for users other than medical professionals to learn about tooth brushing by themselves.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

口腔ケアは口腔内の清掃を通じて歯と口の機能を保つことで、誤嚥性肺炎の予防のみならず全身の機能維持にも寄与する重要な技術であるが、看護基礎教育の現場では口腔ケアの技術修得に充分な時間を割くことが難しい現状がある。
そこで本研究では、学生の自己学習の支援を念頭に、安価で携行可能かつ現実適合性の高い口腔模型「モバイルシミュレータ」を人間工学的に設計・製作し、モバイルシミュレータを用いた自己学習の有効性を検証した。また、このような部分学習が口腔ケアという全体学習に与える効果を明らかにした。モバイルシミュレータの活用により、限られた時間においても実践的な口腔ケアの技術習得が進むことが期待される。
