Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The purpose of this study was to investigate the physiological adaptations of two typical types of respiratory muscle training, and to identify the more suitable training method for long-distance athletics events in track and field based on athletic performance and physiological parameters. The individual times for the 5000m run improved in long-distance runners who underwent respiratory muscle endurance training (RMET) by voluntary isocapnic hyperpnea than those who underwent inspiratory muscle strength training by pressure threshold loading in inspiration. Additionally, respiratory muscle oxygenation levels improved in the RMET group. These results suggest that respiratory muscle endurance training, which promotes faster and deep breathing than high loading during inspiration, improves respiratory muscle oxygenation levels and may be effective for improving performance in long-distance events in track and field.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
