| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
By examining preceding studies and conducting fieldwork, this research aims at gaining a profound understanding of regional characteristics of Canadian theatre festivals and their contribution to revitalizing the regions. After surveying Canadian theatre festivals, this research focuses on some leading festivals to achieve the aims mentioned above. These results were made public at annual conferences both in Japan and Canada as well as in academic journals.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本研究は、比較的新しい研究分野であるフェスティバル研究に貢献することができ、かつ地域の活性化及び国際化に大きく寄与しているカナダの演劇フェスティバルにおける本格的な研究といった特色を有している。さらにフェスティバルに見られる地域的アイデンティティという視点から分析することにより、カナダの多文化主義を考察する上で示唆的な研究になる。同時に、過疎化が進む日本の地方活性化の媒体として、フェスティバルを活用するための一助になることが期待できる。
